Herbs and Superfoods

There’s a world of herbs, superfoods and supplements to choose from, and at times it can be downright overwhelming. Knowing what’s quality vs. junk can be tricky nowadays so I wanted to share with you some of my favourite high quality health products to help you along your journey. While this isn’t a comprehensive guide, it should give you a good selection of only the very best sources for top notch supplements.

I would love to say we can get everything we need from food but that just isn’t the case anymore. That is unless you’re living on a biodynamic farm complete with uncontaminated soils and fish ponds, grass fed cattle and your very own food forest. But most of us dwell in a pretty average setting and we have to eat the food which has been grown in nutrient deficient soils. An interesting way of looking at this is comparing a carrot from the 1950’s to a carrot today. The carrots grown 65 years ago were four times higher in vitamins than a conventionally grown carrot today. Now apply that to everything we eat and you’ve got a recipe for widespread nutrient deficiencies which can manifest a number of ways.

Luckily there are still a bevy of natural herbs and superfoods which we can turn to for deeper nourishment. Looking in the right places is key, so I’ve compiled my favourites, tried and true just for you.

Herbs

Mountain Rose Herbs

If I can’t get certain herbs locally I’ll order them from mountain rose, this company has high standards of purity and uses only organically grown herbs. They also understand the importance of freshness and I’ve never ordered something from them that wasn’t high potency and super fresh.

Superfoods & Supplements

Surthrival

Surthrival is an amazing company with the highest standards. Though their product line isn’t extensive, what they do carry is of the highest quality. The product line consists of the best colostrum supplement on the market (crucial for anyone experiencing digestive distress), medicinal mushrooms, superfoods and amazingly delicious grass fed ghee.

Healthforce

Health force is unique in that they go beyond organic, Dr. Jameth Sheridan’s *truganic certified standards mean

1. 100% pesticide, insecticide, and herbicide free – defined as ZERO detectable

2. 100% GMO free – defined as ZERO GMO detectable

3. 100% irradiation free – defined as ZERO detectable

Their product line encompasses everything from zeolite clay which can protect from radiation, to green food powders. They really have everything under the sun and this is my first destination when I need something that’s really going to work.

Blue Ice Royal Butter Oil/Fermented Cod Liver Oil Blend

Why would someone want to take fermented cod liver oil, mixed with butter? Well, traditionally this is how cod liver oil was consumed, it has a higher bioavailability and in combination with high vitamin grass fed butter the benefits are amplified. Omega-3’s from any old sources are questionable given the toxicity of the oceans. Blue ice uses high quality cod liver oil which is tested for PCB’s, metals and pathogens 3 times over.

MegaFoods

I like megafoods vitamin supplements because they are sourced from whole foods instead of synthetic isolated vitamins. Most multivitamins on the market are synthetic and can actually do more harm than good. In the case of mega foods, you don’t have to worry and the absorption is fantastic.

Natren Probiotics

As far as probiotics go natren is the best quality which I’ve ever used, they have a unique oil based delivery system and are careful not to combine strains which could counteract one another (a common issue with probiotics).

New Chapter

New chapter products are also naturally sourced and their vitamins are derived from whole foods. They make great joint/anti inflammatory formulas.
