Sometimes, I just can’t stop with the pinning of beautiful, exciting, inspiring things. Especially on days like today when my eyes feel heavy and I forget all about the tea I made, oh an hour ago now! Excuse me while I fetch that. Long days in town seeing friendly faces and running around. Admittedly I left unprepared to face the scents of deep fried delights, pad thai and indian pakora being cooked in front of my eyes, loaves of fresh sourdough just waiting to be ripped apart.  My belly gurgled but I did not succumb. J had a meeting and resisted the werther candies with all his might. You always want things more when you can’t have them.

Today I want to share a drink which has carried me through the doldrums of boring old water. JK I am so so grateful for fresh beautiful water. But it’s even better with the addition of herbs and roots.

Boil a gallon of water. Add the following in any combination, give or take. Let it all steep together for a few hours and cool down before transferring to a vessel to chill in the fridge.

  • Licorice Root 1/4 cup
  • Hibiscus 1/4 cup
  • Assam Black Tea 1/3 cup
  • Mint 1/3 cup
  • Elderberries 1/3 cup
  • Rosehips 1/3 cup
  • Fresh Ginger 2 Tbs

The Licorice root is especially therapeutic when you just want that sweetness, it’s naturally very sweet. Licorice also balances blood sugar levels, calms pms, and acts as a soothing elixir to mellow you right out.

Hibiscus, rosehips and elderberries are all high in vitamin C, great during allergy season.

Mint aids digestion and freshens everything up.

Black Tea is high in antioxidants and has a bit of caffeine for enery at that low part of the day.

Ginger stimulates the inner fire and energy, plus it’s immune boosting.

This has been our go to drink to boost energy and satisfy a sweet tooth throughout the whole 30. Here’s to Day 11.
